Multi-published Author and Lyricist Sigrid de Castella, had a dream to create a network of poets that could inspire and encourage both her and others to write and share.

In late 2021 the first group meeting was held with just four attendees, and Melbourne Poets was born. Since then, there have been over a hundred different poets who read and share in the safe, supportive space that Sigrid creates at her wine bar … and the numbers keep growing.

Our philosophy is that there is no ‘right or wrong’ when it comes to poetry. Each writer approaches their chosen subject from a different angle, so the shared works vary widely – from the poignant to the humorous, the simple to the multi-layered, and everything in between. The works that are shared are, in a word … astounding.

Each month budding poets meet to share their latest creations, receiving loving and supportive feedback from their peers. Those who nervously come for the first time just to listen almost always end up reading … even if they need a little dutch courage first!
